Meet Your Agent: Karen Moss-Lodico
Karen has done it all. She started out working in our Hennepin County location before becoming our Marketing Manager, and shortly after, a pillar of the Anoka Courts. She is also actively involved in the Anoka county school system, where her two daughter’s were enrolled before graduating. With what little free time she has, you can find her on the golf course, flipping houses, or wining-and-dining with some of the best attorney’s in town!
Question and Answer with our Anoka County Agent
Q: Where is the best place to eat before court or at lunch?
A: Hans’ Bakery on 5th Avenue is famous for a sweet treat in the morning or anytime! Be prepared to wait in line….
During the lunch hour the deals are great depending on the day of the week: Tuesday is $2 burgers at Beerbelly’s or $2 Tacos at Casa Rio – you’ll be in good company with local law enforcement, judges, attorneys and local regulars at these places. You just might run into me or Jack from Goldberg’s as well!
Q: Hidden Gem near to the courthouse?
A: A walk along the Mississippi River is popular at any time. You might run into regular county workers on a daily lunch walk or regular homeless folks that enjoy napping on the park benches in the sun! The artwork in the tunnel from local middle and high school students is amazing! Also, the third Thursday of each month brings alive downtown Anoka with all of the local consignment and antique stores opening and drawing crowds from everywhere to grab the deal of the day.
Q: How close do you live to the jail?
A: Our office is across the street, and you can always get ahold of me if I’m not there!
Q: What’s the average release time for defendants?
A: There is not average release time at the Anoka County jail. It’s the 4th largest jurisdiction in the state, so the volume of defendants in and out of the jail varies greatly. When it’s a celebrity-type person, they get them in and out in 30 minutes! On a busy Friday it has taken as long as 13 hours for a defendant to get released. My best guess at average is 4-6 hours.
Q: Do you have any tips for clients in court in Anoka County?
A: Avoid getting arrested around Halloween as Anoka is the “Halloween capital of the world” and there are so many crowds and festivities that you will likely be tied up extra long in jail if you land there then! 😉 If you do find yourself in trouble, just take a walk across the street from the jail to Goldberg’s office and there we are to help you out!
Q: What is your favorite part of bail bonds?
A: I feel like a counselor most days. No matter how big or small the reason someone ends up in jail, it’s a huge deal to their family, friends and those trying to get them out. I try to help everyone understand the system, what to expect next and try to help them calm down. It’s not the end of the world, we’re all human and make mistakes. It’s important to help find the humor if possible. My favorite gesture to give the cosigner a “Got Bail” t-shirt to wrap up for their next birthday or holiday gift “Here you go honey, here’s your $800 t-shirt, Happy Birthday – that’s all you’re getting! “ That usually brings a laugh and if I can make them laugh before walking out of my office under the stressful circumstances, I feel like I’ve done a good job. 🙂
