Families Helping Families
She got a call in the middle of the night. It was an attorney. He said her 26-year-old son was in custody in the Hennepin County Jail, Downtown Minneapolis. He claimed that he needed a retainer to get bail set first thing in the morning as her son had refused to blow on a probable DWI.
She had so many questions: Who was this guy? How’d he get involved? Why couldn’t she talk to her son? And was he OK?
She decided to call Goldberg to verify the information.
As the case went on, we referred her to an attorney who was willing to charge half of what the original attorney was quoting. The new attorney went to see a judge, and was able to get bail set without any additional fee to the family. Because of the overall cost, and lack of direct contact with her son, we were able to put her on a payment plan that worked for her family as a whole. When her son was released, we asked who the first attorney had been, and how did he get ahold of him? The son told us that he had not even gotten phone time before the attorney showed up. The attorney had told him a friend called, but the son did not have anyone with him when he got arrested, and no one else could have known.
Stories like these happen every day. A parent, girlfriend, or loved one gets pressured into hiring someone they don’t know on the other end of the line. Someone who is taking advantage of them. Someone who is likely soliciting, despite the efforts of Minnesota’s Department of Commerce overhaul.
If you get a call from an attorney or a bondsman that you did not contact, and you have never worked with, or if they approach you at the jail/court, this is called solicitation. Please call Goldberg Bail Bonds to verify all of the information. Our diligent service over the last century speaks to our desire to bring families back together by presenting the resources and information you need in a crisis.
